Weather in Patagonia

  • Unpredictable and variable.

  • Average temperatures: 5°C–15°C (41°F–59°F)

  • Wind: Strong, especially in summer months (Dec–March)

  • Best riding months: October to April

Always be ready for four seasons in a single day—layer smart, pack light, and stay flexible.

What to Pack

Patagonia’s weather is famously unpredictable—expect sunshine, rain, wind, and even snow… all in the same day. Layering is essential.

Recommended gear:

  • Waterproof and windproof jacket (essential)

  • Base layer (synthetic or merino wool)

  • Insulated mid-layer

  • Padded MTB shorts

  • Long-sleeve riding jersey

  • Riding gloves (thermal if possible)

  • Sunglasses or riding goggles

  • Neck warmer or buff

  • Comfortable shoes with good grip

  • Backpack or hydration pack (with 1.5–2L minimum)

Money & Local Info

  • Currency: Chilean Peso (CLP)

  • Credit cards accepted in most towns, but not in remote areas.

  • USD accepted in some tourist businesses.

  • ATMs available in Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales.
